What is a nurse care manager?
A nurse care manager is a registered nurse who coordinates medical care across providers, settings, and family members. They assess clinical needs, build a written care plan, communicate with physicians, oversee caregivers, and adjust the plan as conditions change. The Aging Life Care Association recognizes nurse care management as a specialty within professional care management.
What is the difference between concierge nursing and home health?
Home health is short-term, physician-ordered, and typically covered by Medicare for specific post-discharge recovery periods. Concierge nursing is private-pay, ongoing, more comprehensive, and not dependent on insurance authorization. Concierge nursing allows for longer visits, proactive monitoring, and tighter family communication than home health agencies can provide under insurance reimbursement constraints.
Does Medicare cover concierge nursing or care management?
Original Medicare does not cover private concierge nursing or care management. Some Medicare Advantage plans cover limited supplemental benefits but rarely the full scope of concierge services. Concierge care is typically paid privately, either out of pocket or through long-term care insurance policies.
