Post-Operative Recovery Planning
Discreet, organized, nurse-led recovery support for clients after surgery, procedures, cosmetic surgery, orthopedic surgery, or complex medical discharge, coordinated by a registered nurse who understands what surgical recovery actually requires.
The first 72 hours after surgery determine the recovery curve.
The early post-surgical period is the highest-risk window for complications, including infection, bleeding, blood clots, medication errors, uncontrolled pain, and readmission. Research published in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons consistently shows that the quality of post-discharge clinical attention is one of the strongest predictors of recovery outcomes.
Most surgical practices discharge patients with paperwork and prescriptions but limited clinical follow-up at home. For complex procedures, cosmetic surgery, orthopedic recovery, and older patients recovering from any procedure, that gap often turns into preventable complications.
WholeHealth Concierge fills the gap. We coordinate nurse-led recovery support that begins before discharge and continues through the recovery arc.
Structured recovery, not improvised care.
Each post-operative recovery engagement is structured around the specific procedure, the surgeon's discharge instructions, and the client's medical history. Typical scope includes:
- Pre-surgical planning, home preparation, and supplies coordination
- Discharge coordination with the hospital or surgical center
- Wound monitoring, dressing changes, drain management
- Pain management oversight and prescription tracking
- Medication reconciliation and administration support
- Mobility assistance, fall prevention, ambulation guidance
- DVT prevention protocols and clinical observation
- Communication with the surgical team and primary physician
- Family updates and post-recovery transition planning
Where post-operative recovery support is most valuable.
Common scenarios include:
- Cosmetic surgery. Facelifts, body contouring, breast surgery, and other procedures where discreet professional recovery support is preferred
- Orthopedic surgery. Joint replacements, spinal procedures, and post-trauma recovery
- Cardiothoracic surgery. Bypass, valve, or interventional cardiac procedures
- Abdominal surgery. Bowel resections, hernia repair, complex GI procedures
- Cancer-related surgery. Oncologic procedures requiring drain management, wound care, and coordination with oncology
- Outpatient procedures. Where same-day discharge requires more support than the patient can manage alone
Discretion is central to the model. Many cosmetic and high-profile clients prefer private nurse-led recovery rather than rehabilitation facilities for both privacy and quality of care reasons.

Researched. Factual. From the field.
Direct answers grounded in current healthcare practice and research.
When should I arrange post-operative recovery support?
Ideally before surgery. Pre-surgical planning allows us to coordinate with the surgical team, prepare the home environment, line up supplies and equipment, and have a clinical plan ready the moment discharge happens. Same-day or next-day engagements are also possible when needed.
How long does a typical post-operative engagement last?
Depends on the procedure. Cosmetic surgery recovery is often 5 to 10 days of intensive support. Major orthopedic or abdominal surgery may run 2 to 6 weeks of structured nurse oversight. Complex cardiac or cancer-related procedures can extend longer with stepped-down support.
Can you coordinate with my surgeon directly?
Yes. With your consent, we communicate directly with the surgical team to align on discharge instructions, wound care protocols, medication management, and follow-up appointments. This is one of the highest-value parts of the engagement because surgeons often note that compliance and recovery outcomes are noticeably better when there is dedicated nursing coordination.
Is this covered by insurance?
Generally no. Post-operative recovery support at this level is private-pay. Original Medicare may cover limited skilled home health for specific clinical criteria. Some long-term care insurance policies reimburse for nursing support. WHC services are private-pay regardless of insurance status.
Do you provide care for cosmetic surgery recovery specifically?
Yes. Cosmetic surgery recovery is one of our most common engagements. We work discreetly with patients recovering from facial procedures, body contouring, breast surgery, and other elective procedures where privacy and high-quality nursing oversight are essential.
